In the Beginning

This is a fitting image to start with--not for its title or theme but for the simplicity of the image--the sole figure of a man in jeans, revealing a smooth, limber torso. Often it is the smooth brown color and a taut physique that gives the young Sri Lankan man an alluring and sensual appeal. Destruction refers to the setting of the photo. The man looks out on a section of shoreline destroyed in the Dec. 2004 tsunami, where he lost his fishing boat and livelihood. Soldiers 001This will be a commonly recurring theme. Photos of Sri Lankan soldiers are almost innumerable on the Web. Pictured are soldiers from Sri Lanka's UN contingent in a training mission in Bangladesh. Two or three years ago when Sri Lanka's UN mission for Haiti was announced it was a first for Sri Lanka's forces who regularly serve in their own war-ravaged homeland, but rarely abroad.

Worship

An interesting photograph taken by a young Sri Lankan Tamil expatriate in Canada, on a visit to the war torn northeastern part of Sri Lanka. The photograph depicts Tamil men performing a Hindu ritual. An excellent collection of photos from the region are hosted on his website. (Image source).
Prologue
This project is somewhat inspired by a Washington D.C. blogger's Naked Came I. If one is able to get beyond the adult-themed images, one can apprecitate the effort the blog author makes to communicate and share his passion for the erotic male nude. My own passion is not limited to that featured in this site, but this is certainly the more personal side of what appeals to me.
This blog focusses on the Sri Lankan male, whose beauty unexpectedly captivated me on a trip to Vietnam in 1996. It was the sight of a Sri Lankan construction worker transported to Vietnam by a Singaporean company working on a project in the beach resort town of Vung Tau.
It is quite rare to find a Sri Lankan in Vietnam. Here was a solitary worker, strikingly different in appearance from the Vietnamese around him. He had curly black hair and very dark complexion. It was a look which, although long since faded from memory, has left with me an enduring attraction for the Sri Lankan and South Indian male.
Update:
How has Sri Lankan Male fared since its March 2006 inception?

(19-May-2009) Interestingly, the Worship photo (above) was taken by Tamil Canadian student Suresh Sriskanadarajah, aka Waterloo Suresh, who was arrested in Canada in 2006 on charges of aiding terrorism. His story is a fascinating one, full of personal peaks and troughs. I first encountered him online in the early part of this decade through the handsome photos he had posted of himself. He would have certainly been featured on Sri Lankan Male had the tragic circumstances surrounding his arrest not occurred.
The dozens of self-portraits he had posted were all abruptly removed from his Pbase.com website. Instead what we find today are only images like these.
