Sri Lanka is, of course, a beautiful place to vacation, offering attractive scenery and a warm tropical setting.

The beaches and coastal areas are popular desitinations for both Sri Lankans and foreign tourists.

The following images are from travel in the Unawatuna area in November 2005.

The young men one encounters, with their attractive features and friendly dispostion, can be considered among the charms of this tropical island country.

Majesty of the Sea

The southern Sri Lankan sea is unpredictable. Strong swells can gradually emerge after a period of relative calm. The undercurrents are strong. Without the protection of an offshore reef, swimmers are advised to take care.

Following the beach, rather than the road, is the best way to take in the sights.






The scenery is breathtaking.








Sri Lanka has its local surfing set, although few in number.






Seas can quickly go from calm to rough.







Boys at Play

The beach on weekends is a popular play site for young Sri Lankans.


Jumping into the water is msotly for the boys.


A group of young Muslims go for impromptu volleyball at sea.

It isn't for tanning that Sri Lankan boys and men head to the beach.

Often it is just to pass time with friends or sometimes to try to make money.






After too much horseplay, some may need to rest in peace!

One is bound to notice the nice physiques and handsome featrues of the men, whether at work or play.


A Most Attractive Setting

As the day wears on, views become more dramatic. The sun, sand, sea and clouds create beautiful contrasts.























At the River

Inland views are also striking with thick tropical growth and the occasional wildlife spotting.





The boatman rows ashore and climbs a tree to fetch coconuts.
