Good Morning

Back...

Well, actually it is this frontal image that warrants a second take.

But I have to announce that I'm back, as this is the first post in several months. I have wondered whether to continue posting for a number of reasons:
  1. It takes a considerable amount of time to get a good post together.
  2. I've got a partner who doesn't approve so I have to post on the sly.
  3. I haven't got enough of my own images--I much prefer to be the photographer than to steal/borrow images from others.
  4. And it is quite annoying and discouraging to get cease and desist warnings from those who feel offended by either their own images or images they've posted online appearing on the site. Too many of those were coming in and so I took pause.
Well stuff it all. I'm going to start posting again! Sri Lankan men are hot and they deserve a platform. So here goes something.

The fantasy that Sri Lanka is, for those fortunate enough to live or visit there...

This is the concept, Good Morning, that I got started with on 31 January 2011, inspired by the images shown here. But I wasn't quite sure how to present them and then my posting came, unintentionally, to a halt. This is how it was supposed to start...

Morning in Sri Lanka

It can really be like this--service on a tray--and better than any fresh fruit is a handsome young Sri Lankan man to serve it.

<< yes, a perfect start to the day

Sri Lankan coastal areas are dotted with guest houses where any visitor, local or foreign, can partake of such simple pleasures.

You get gentle sea breezes, blue skies decorated with fluffy white clouds and the pleasant company of house staff who can make a stay at a guest house and the less expensive resorts the best therapy for those needing to relax and rejuvenate.

Morning in Sri Lanka, whether on the coasts, in the hill country or even in the middle of a big town like Colombo is likely to be the best time of the day. It is cooler and calmer and the rich foliage all around is invigorating.

The natural beauty of Sri Lanka

It is the time of day that you don't want to miss. You've got to be up and outdoors and walking in the shade of trees. Kandy, in the central foothills, is one of the most pleasant places in Sri Lanka for an early morning stroll. You can take in the rich vegetation from any vantage point in the city while glancing up at the surrounding hills.

Luxury at what cost?

One can be tempted to invest in the comforts offered to tourists in Sri Lanka with the likes of an extended stay at an expensive, multi-starred resort.

Luxury properties can cost $200, $300 and more per night. They will likely offer beautiful lobbies in traditional wood decor, expansive pool settings, fine dining and club houses, and cushy suite rooms. The architecture in many such properties is often of a simply-stated elegance. In fact, this can be found in both high and low end establishments. They are all in very good taste.

An offering of flowers--pretty blossoms like these are often laid on the beds and dining tables of guests in resorts and guest houses alike.

But does the property's value come only from its luxurious comforts? There is more to having a great experience in Sri Lanka than enjoying fine linens. Sri Lanka's greatest luxuries are its tropical vegetation, its open skies, expansive seacoasts and the friendliness of its people. These are readily accessible whether one pays $300, $30 or even just $13 a night for accommodation.

Admittedly, you might spend as little as Rs1000 (under $10) to get a hefty share of mosquitos, flies and ants to accompany you during your stay.

But even a $10-$30 spend can reward you with a sufficient measure of Sri Lankan paradise, in the form of basic and adequate facilities for sleeping and bathing along with all of the goodness that nature has to offer.

A good net or chemical dispersant will ward off mosquitos and other six-legged annoyances. For a guarantee of freshness one could carry his own bed sheets and pillow cases, taking along a spare or two. One can get linen done cheaply at or near the less expensive accommodations.

not all tuk-tuk drivers so young and welcoming

Best of all, you are likely to get the kind of thoughtful, personal attention one only usually gets when staying as a guest in a family home, as opposed to a business establishment. The experience of paradise is even more rewarding when opting for that low-cost guest house as opposed to the high-end, high-cost resort.

The Personal Touch

Given the option of a splendidly apportioned accommodation in a 5-star resort, like say the Taj Exotica in Bentota, or a beachside bungalow with the likes of handsome young staff to mingle with, my choice would be the latter. It just makes sense to keep things simple and real, which is the essence of what Sri Lanka has to offer.

Cover boy shot... handsome Sri Lankan youth.

For fluff and multi-star luxury one should vacation in Dubai. For indulging in the simpler pleasures, then one best head to Sri Lanka!

Now, how about a reprise on the handsome morning server.

I've already said that I'd love to wake up to a breakfast like the one he serves. The appeal of the young Sri Lankan male is... well, I'll quote the writer of a recent email message I received:
...dark skin, bright eyes, thick black hair, beautiful white teeth, wonderful bodies and great hairy chests and legs. Such a delicious combination.
I couldn't have said it better myself.

Perhaps some house beverages?

Now let me see if I can do some credits here. The nice guest house images are from one of the gay-friendly guest houses in Negombo. I found most of the images on the blog of a Thai traveller--Suzi Wong or something like that--at www.stickyrice.ws.

the personal touch

Dickman's Resort and Gomez Place are the two Negombo guest houses. They are nice for the charm of the young men and simple decor, but not ideally located, being away from the beach. There is also Villa Kusum, along Sri Lanka's famed southern coast, but it is rather costly.

I have stayed only at Gomez Place myself, several years ago. I loved the decor, which is typically colorful and bright, and the atmosphere and staff were good and friendly.

But at the end of the day, you will probably find just as pleasant a quality of staff and facilities at any guest house that has that personal touch.

How to know which to choose? Well, I suppose Trip Adviser reviews is one way to start and another would be to investigate yourself while visiting Sri Lanka. When in Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, Negombo, etc. just drop in and check out what's there.

Now, some random images... This is what makes putting the SLM post together kinda hard. I like to integrate everything into the theme. But then, theme be damned sometimes. I just gotta share these great images.

For starters, two friendly guys...
And a fair-skinned, young Sri Lankan guy (below)--his lady friend photoshopped out...

Here now some noble bodybuilders--body beautiful!

I think this one's from Chennai (below), well-built and looking good...
This next image was sent to me by a reader. It is a vintage photo of a Sri Lankan male in times gone by. Like a lion--strong, masculine and captivating.

A little culture now...

And the good men of the armed forces--I really love the look of the clean shaven, well-behaved type, in sharp uniforms and with sharp expressions.

Ok, and one more time... No doubt, this (below) is one of my favorite images. The color combo is great--brown man immersed in pink. The features of the Sri Lankan male are often as dark as the African male, but with the erotic qualities of South Asian eyes, hair texture and smiles.

Milk tea?

Yes, I'll have that simple and delicious Sri Lankan morning treat!

And back now to where we started off, with that glorious frontal.
A bit racy I know, but well...

The Sri Lankan Male is Back!

Cheers, and I hope to keep bringing your more of the handsome men of Sri Lanka.

Good to have you back!
I was wondering where you had gotten to.
I was in Sri Lanka in May (Colombo and Negombo)
and hopeing to sneek another trip in in October.
As I rode in the taxi from the Airport to the Colombo Hilton I thought to myself how at ease I feel in Sri Lanka. It doesn't feel like a foreign country to me. Its more like visiting an old freind.
Take care and keep up the great work!

Thanks for those words of support. Glad to hear you feel safe and at home when visiting Sri Lanka. I certainly feel very comfortable and at ease when I visit Sri Lanka too. In that regard it is quite different from India where one can be made to feel like an intruder. I hope to keep the post coming in now.

On the topic of accomidation in Sri Lanka.
When I go in October I am thinking of renting an apartment.
My thinking is that it would be easier to "entertain guests"
Besides the way hotel prices have gone up in Sri Lanka it it also a cheaper option.
Any thoughts?

James, I would agree you'll get more privacy, but then you miss out on the friendly service you're likely to get from the guest house or hotel staff. Instead of staff being aloof and indifferent, in Sri Lanka they tend to be more friendly and engaging. But if you go the apartment route, please let us know how it works out.
